Collective agreement

A collective agreement is a written agreement between an employers' organisation or employer and a trade union on pay and terms of employment. In practice it decides premium levels, overtime pay, the number of holiday days and departures from the Working Hours Act.

For a time system the collective agreement is the single most important source of configuration. Nearly every number that has to be set comes from it: when an unsocial hours premium starts, what it is worth, how much time off in lieu an overtime hour gives, how many holiday days an employee has, and whether daily rest may depart from eleven hours.

It is also why a system cannot ship a finished setup. There are too many agreements and they change too often.

Where there is no collective agreement, the statutory minimums apply, and for unsocial hours that means there is no minimum at all.

How Timply handles it

You enter your premium windows, your full-time measure and your holiday entitlement as settings, and Timply calculates from them. When the agreement is renegotiated you change the setup and the calculation follows.

  • Unsocial hours premium

An unsocial hours premium, OB in Swedish, is extra pay for work at inconvenient times such as evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays. It is set in collective agreements rather than in law, so both the hours that count and the rate differ between agreements.

  • Working Hours Act

The Working Hours Act (1982:673) governs how much and when you may work in Sweden. It sets ordinary working time at no more than forty hours a week, caps overtime at two hundred hours a year, and requires daily and weekly rest.

  • Annual Leave Act

The Annual Leave Act (1977:480) governs the right to holiday in Sweden. It gives at least 25 holiday days per holiday year, defines the holiday year as 1 April to 31 March, and sets the rules for paid days, saved days and holiday pay.
