Built for the employee
The app has four tabs, and they match the four things an employee actually does: Time for clocking in and out, Schedule for published shifts, Absence for requests and Projects for reporting time against a job. Projects is a Pro feature, so on Core there are three tabs.
It is not a shrunken version of the web interface. Scheduling, pulling reports and payroll export belong in the browser, where there is room for them.
The time clock
One tap clocks in. The employee sees their running time counting up and their most recent entries with totals. If you have location validation switched on in Pro, the position is read at the clock-in and checked against the workplace.
The schedule, and who else is on
An employee sees their own shifts and which colleagues are booked on the same one. Shifts can be subscribed to from the phone's own calendar, which means a changed schedule updates itself without anybody being asked to check the app.
Leave and messages
Leave requests and sick reporting are made in the app, and the employee follows the status of a request there. A decision arrives as a notification.
Notices from the workplace reach staff in the app rather than in a group chat, which means information that concerns everybody can also be found again afterwards.
Connection
The app records against the server when the clock-in happens, so it needs coverage at that moment. An offline mode is high on the list of what is being built next.

Does the app cost extra?
No. Timply for iPhone and Android is included in every plan with no extra cost per user.
Can managers schedule from the app?
No. The app is built for the employee. Scheduling, reports and payroll export happen in the browser, where there is room for them.
Does the app work without coverage?
No. Clocking in and requests need a connection. There is no offline mode today and it is planned.
Can the schedule go into a phone's own calendar?
Yes. Shifts can be subscribed to from Apple Calendar, Google Calendar and Outlook, so changes follow by themselves.
Do staff get notifications?
Yes, on a published schedule, a decision on a request and new messages from the workplace.
Does every employee need their own phone?
No. Everything staff do in the app can also be done in a browser, so a shared terminal at the workplace works.

A digital time clock in the phone or on a shared terminal
Staff clock in and out in the app or the browser. The time is recorded against the server as it happens, so it is not written down and typed up later.
